The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former governor of Adamawa state; Murtala Nyako has been declared the winner of the state’s gubernatorial election.
Mr Nyako won in 14 of the 21 local government areas in the state.
Declaring Mr Nyako as the winner, the returning officer for the Independent National Election Commission (INEC); Professor Mohammed H. Mohammed, announced that the PDP’s candidate won the polls by 44.22% whilst the ACN polled 35.1% and CPC, 16.27%.
A further breakdown of the result revealed that Mr Nyako who was ousted from the office 10days ago won the election by garnering 302,953 votes to beat the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN); Markus Gundri who pulled 241,023 votes. The candidate of the Congress of Progressive Change (CPC); Mohammed Buba Marwa came third polling 107,546 votes.
Mr Nyako is among the five governors ousted by the Supreme Court ruling just over a week ago.
However, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has expressed dissatisfaction with the result, sighting electoral malpractices and state’s intimidation. The party in a quick reaction stated that it will be heading to the election tribunal to contest the result.
While reacting to his victory, Mr. Nyako expressed his gratitude to the people of Adamawa state, thanking them for coming out enmasse to re-elect him for another term.
