The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ogun State chapter, has declared a three-day warning strike against the Ibikunle Amosun-led administration, over its inability to pay deductions made from workers’ salaries and non-payment of leave bonuses for over a year.
In a statement issued by the union and signed by its secretary, Mr Bamidele Oyeniyan, the union decried the lack of interest in the welfare of its members by the government, stating that the allocations accrued to the 20 local government councils in the state had not been released.
The statement said the state executive committee (SEC)-in-session, having waited for response from the state government, after its meeting on Monday, resolved to embark on the warning strike, to press home its demands.
It will be recalled that the union had earlier issued the state government a 14-day ultimatum, with ref number NULGE/OGS.612/Vol.11/ 262, dated August 31, 2012, wherein another seven-day ultimatum was issued the government to address the problem.
“The SEC-in-session observed with dismay that the state government remained adamant by not showing any commitment to our demands.
“We observed that the state government has no interest in the welfare of our members. We would like to state here that as of today, September 12, 2012, allocation for the month of July has not been released, with no effort to see how our August salaries would be paid. Even, some have not been able to complete the payment of July 2012 salaries,” the statement read.
