CPC Maps Out Strategies To Oust PDP In 2015

Former presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), retired General Muhammadu Buhari says a merger of opposition parties is the only way to defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing elected representatives and other members of the party in Abuja, General Buhari said the country is saddled with a government under whose watch corruption, oppression and insecurity tend to be the order of the day, and there is an urgent need to halt the trend.

He advised members of the party to work within the framework of the law and aggressively mobilise the electorate to register ahead of the next general elections.

The only governor elected on the platform of the party, Mr. Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State, urged the elected members of the party to engage in regular interaction as part of efforts to ensure the victory of the party even as the merger plans remain in place.

The national chairman of the party, Prince Tony Momoh expressed optimism that 2015 will witness positive change in the fortunes of the party.

The one-day interactive session was expected to, among other issues, address the current merger plans between the party and other opposition parties, party funding strategy and its constraints as an opposition party including the relationship between the party and its elected representatives.
