The European Union has announced a grant of 50 million euros to ECOWAS for the on-going military operation in Mali.

The EU Ambassador and head of the delegation, Dr Macrea said the grant which is in support of the African- led international support mission in Mali would cover the troops salaries in Mali.

The EU also approved 26 million euros to improve free movement of persons and migration in West Africa sub-region.

The EU which has taken up the battle against terrorism in the Sahel redeemed its pledge to provide the grant in support of the African-led international peace mission in Mali.

Working closely with the West African States, the EU is seeking a truly comprehensive approach to the Malian crisis.

Providing support in other areas of assistance like tackling climate change and adaptability in member states, Sweden also provided $6.7million to assist ECOWAS to tackle these issues to bring further development to the region.
