The prosecutor investigating the murder of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister – Benazir Bhutto, Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali, was shot dead by motorcycle attackers in Islamabad, on Friday.

Zulfiqar was ambushed by gunmen on a motorcycle as he drove to a court hearing in the case. He lost control of his car, which hit and killed a pedestrian.

The former Pakistan Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, died in a gun and bomb attack in 2007.

Former Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf, who is currently being held under house arrest, has been accused of failing to provide adequate security for Ms. Bhutto at the time of her death.

Mr Musharraf, who recently returned to Pakistan after living abroad, has denied the allegations leveled against him but will remain under arrest while investigations are being made.

The prosecutor, Zulfiqar was actively involved in the murder case and was on Friday ambushed by attackers who sprayed his car with bullets, badly injuring the prosecutor.

He later died in hospital.

A woman pedestrian was also killed and Chaudhry Zulfiqar’s bodyguard was injured.
