A security expert, Max Gbanite has said Nigerians have failed the law enforcement and military agencies who are fighting the current insurgency in the country.

Speaking on Channels Television’s breakfast show Sunrise Daily, Mr Gbanite said from the 2013 budget, the Ministry of Finance has given the security agency 20 percent of the funds to secure the nation. He said Nigerians have failed the military agencies by sending them to fight insurgents and militant groups without equipping them.

He said “we have also helped in increasing the hatred of the military, the law enforcement agencies to give confidence to community to feel that the military and law enforcement agencies are game that can be killed at any given time and that is not acceptable”

Mr Gbanite said Nigerian democracy has survived over the years “because of the maturity being exhibited by the current military who are highly intellectual and have come to accept that its only democracy that can keep the country together.”

He said “someone in the Ministry of Defence is sitting there fiddling with their budget and putting the lives of Nigerians in danger which is on acceptable” insisting that a budget of N1 trillion for security is not enough.
