To curtail any more attacks on staff and students of secondary schools across Yobe state, the state government has announced plans to fence all secondary schools in the state.
The state Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Mohammed Lamin, who disclosed this to journalists in Damaturu said before the fencing of the secondary schools, government in conjunction with the Joint Task Force (JTF) will deploy security operatives in all secondary schools across the state to prevent further attacks from gunmen suspected to be members of the radical Islamist, Boko Haram.
Lamin said this became necessary considering the recent attack on students of Government Secondary School Damaturu which left eleven people including teachers and students death.
He also explained that “government in conjunction with the JTF has agreed to deploy security operatives to the schools to provide 24 hours security in the schools to prevent future occurrence.”
The Commissioner described the attack on Government Secondary School Damaturu as “traumatic and pathetic” as it involves innocent souls of students and teachers.
“The trauma will remain with us for a very long time because, one cannot imagine what these students and teachers have done to deserve such gruesome murder” he added.
Alhaji Lamin said government has closed the affected school to give the staff and students adequate time to recover from the attack he described as “unfortunate”
Gunmen had ten days ago launched attack on the Government Secondary School Damaturu, killing seven students and two teachers of the school while six others sustained injuries during the attack.
Two of the insurgents were killed with three others arrested by the security forces, the JTF.
