Second Republic Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Richard Akinjide (SAN) On Tuesday highlighted the ups and downs Nigeria has faced since obtaining its independence from the British colonial masters in 1960.

Speaking during the Independence Day edition of Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Akinjide described Nigeria as “the greatest nation in the whole of Africa”.

Akinjide, who was in the parliament before, during and after the independence, further said that Nigeria in its 53 years of independence has done “very good, very bad and average”.

He said the country should count itself as “extremely lucky” noting that “we are the greatest country in the whole of Africa”.

Akinjide, who was also the minister of education in the first republic, was quick to add that “we have challenges.” He also noted that all nations in the world face challenges at a given time of their existence.

He added that “there must be up and down all the time” while making reference to his personal life and the lives of every Nigeria.

He further noted that life is a combination of the good and the bad.
