National Chairman of the Labour Party, Dan Nwanyanwu, has criticised the recent directive by the All Progressives Congress (APC) calling on its members in the National Assembly to block all executive bills.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, Nwanyanwu said that the call by the interim leadership of the All Progressives Congress is subversive and inciting, as President Jonathan cannot be directly held responsible for the political crisis rocking Rivers State.

The Labour Party advised opposition parties to be constructive, as criticisms of policies of government in power without proffering alternative policy options is destructive and capable of overheating the polity.

The party, therefore, appealed to all Nigerians to defend the sovereignty of the Nigerian nation, saying that the negative effect of fundamentalism and extremism are glaring in Egypt, Syria, Central African Republic and Sudan.

‘Acts Of Impunity’

The APC had instructed all its members in the National Assembly to block all legislative proposals, including the 2014 budget and confirmation of all nominees to military and civilian positions to public office.”

This was part of the outcome of its interim National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

The party’s Interim Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, explained that the decision was as a result of what the party considers as ‘acts of impunity’ by the Federal Government in Rivers State.
