The Plateau State Police Command has reinforced security operations in the state in order to ensure a hitch free Local Government elections with the deployment of both human and material resources across the Local Government areas involved in the elections.

After postponing the council elections in the state for more than three times, the Plateau State Electoral Commission, PLASIEC, eventually fixed Tuesday, February 25 as the elections date for 15 Local Government areas, while Jos North and Wase Local Government areas were exempted from the exercise due to security reports.

Addressing journalists at the Plateau State Police Command Headquarters in Jos, Police Commissioner, Chris Olakpe, declared that there would be restriction of movement within the state, in order to ensure a hitch free elections.

Apart from restricting inter and intra state movement on the election day, the Police also warned that everyone should strictly comply with the electoral law, while any breach of the law by any person or group of persons would not be tolerated.

The Police boss also highlighted the redeployment of additional security personnel across the state, with special concentration on trouble spots, so as to avoid any breakdown of law and order while the post-election period is also of paramount importance.

Meanwhile, the Government has declared Tuesday as work free day for citizens to exercise their franchise.
