The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced the ban on all forms of gathering in any part of the nation’s capital by the ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ campaigners.
In a statement made available to Channels Television by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Altine Daniel, the Police said that the campaigners were now posing a serious security threat to those living around the Federal Capital Territory.
The statement, at a news conference in Abuja, quoted the FCT Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu to have said “protests on the Chibok girls are hereby banned with immediate effect.”
It added that CP Mbu says he cannot fold his hands and allow groups under the guise of protest to detonate explosives aimed at embarrassing the Government.
“As the FCT Police boss, I cannot fold my hands and watch this lawlessness. Information reaching us is that soon, dangerous elements will join groups under the guise of protest and detonate explosives aimed at embarrassing the government.
“People have been protesting over a month now…it is the issue of terrorism, it is not solved in one day.
“Then, when you continue to do it persistently, it becomes nuisance to the government”, he said.
The FCT Police Commissioner also announced that all tinted glass permits not signed by the Inspector General of Police have been revoked.
“There was a period when permits were granted, but the recent security challenges have made the Police authority to revisit the issue and have resolved to revoke same”, he said.
The Commissioner has also redeployed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the FCT and directed them to hand over to the next senior police officers in their respective divisions.
