imo stateThe Imo State Commissioner of Information, Theodore Ekechi, has attributed the development of Imo State to good security strategy and planning.

Appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily to discuss recent developments in the state, he said that the State Government’s proactive approach to its security has also helped in the reduction of crime, with emphasis on the discoveries of baby factories in the state.

He stated that crime in the state had reduced due to the synergy between the security agencies and the traditional and local securities, which comprises of the Imo Security Network, vigilante groups and civil guards.

He added that the Community Government Council of the state had also been one of the contributing factors in the fight against crime.

The Commissioner noted that while there was a law that recognizes traditional rulers in some states, in Imo State, traditional rulers have been given the office of authority, which is part of the Community Government Council (CGC) for the development of the state.

“This is the real formula that can reduce crime in Nigeria today, accelerate rural development and bring the government closer to the people”, he said.

He further explained that in the Southeast, most of the developments they have experienced had been driven Town Union Associations but this system has not been able to attain its potential. Therefore, the Imo State Government decided to bring the Town Union Association under the umbrella of the Community Government Council as part of its own development plan.

The Commissioner, however, noted that the merging of these groups under one umbrella would not go against the constitution, rather it would be a way of restructuring the state for good governance.

“It is our new creation, it is not known, but within the powers and definition of the state, it was the creation of the state legislation of Imo State and the initiative of the Governor of the state”

He also added that the Community Government Council, CGC, was another level of government.
