National-conferenceA rowdy session ensued at the National Conference on Thursday over a motion calling for delegates to recognise the sacrifice of those Nigerians including late Moshood Abiola who lost their lives for what is now termed, the June 12 struggle.

Although delegates observed a minute silence in honour of those who died, delegates got into a shouting match as some of them opposed the motion.

The delegates had commenced the day’s session continuing their consideration of the report of the committee on economy, trade and investment but this was interrupted by a point of order raised by South South Delegate, Orok Duke, saying it was a motion of urgent national importance.

While some supported the motion, others were opposed to it and this led to a rowdy session.

The Chairman of the National Conference, Idris Kutigi, however ruled that a moment’s silence be observed in honour of those who lost their lives in the June 12 struggle.

The conference continued with the consideration of the report on economy, trade and investment, but once again the consideration was interrupted by a point of order which met stiff opposition.

The conference eventually returned fully to the amendments being proposed to the report of the committee on economy, trade and investment.

The conference adopted the report and it is now set to move on to the 10th report to be considered – the report of the committee on energy.
