Niger Delta Delegates Push For Resource Control

The North-South unity question in Nigeria has continued to come under scrutiny, this time by the Niger Delta delegates at the ongoing National Conference in Abuja.

The delegates, led by Ankio Briggs, accused the North of what she described as a deliberate attempt to milk the South, especially the Niger Delta and then dump Nigeria when they are done, to fall back on their huge untapped resources.

Speaking at a Niger Delta self-determination movement event in Port Harcourt, the activist insisted that the people of the Niger Delta must have 100 percent control of their resources.

The people of the Niger Delta extraction and their representatives at the conference say its 100 percent resource control or nothing.

In their words, their region has been the worst hit as far as not benefiting from the Nigeria arrangement was concerned.

Outside the hall, placard carrying youths echoed the voices of their leaders; they insisted, enough is enough.

The development indicates that the North-South unity question may not have been answered in the National Conference, and it is expected that this would not be ignored.
