Ahmed_GodaneThe United States seems to have been drawn into another operation in the Middle East.

This time, the focus is on defeating Islamist State (IS) militants, who have taken over large swathes of territories in Iraq and in Syria.

Earlier, the US Pentagon made an interesting revelation, when it said air strikes had killed AL-Shabab leader, Ahmed Godane.

For the United States, it is an important feat. Two terror leaders killed brought down by one administration.

But will it stop Al-Shabab’s campaign in Africa? A question that was answered by an analyst, Professor Femi Adegbulu.

Also, US President, Barack Obama, has outlined what would be America’s strategy for defeating the IS militants in Iraq.

The key words here are; ‘game plan’, ‘degrade’, ‘shrink’, and defeat.

The US President has been criticised for not having any specific plan on defeating IS militants, but what he talks about in his recent interview, could provide some direction for the military of the free world.

And later on, the race to find a vaccine for Ebola, the World Health Organization is considering a number of options.

For a number of days now, the US has been carrying out air strikes in somalia. they said the target was Al-Shabab leader, Ahmed Godane, because he had openly announced the group’s affiliation to Al Qaeda. even sending a personal message on its behalf to the late Osama Bin Laden.

While the group itself has not carried out any attacks in the United States, it has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in Somalia, which have spilled into neighbouring Kenya.

So, the death of Ahmed Godane was good news, not only to the American government, but for Somalia, Kenya, and others living under the threat of the militant group.

Back in 2011, when US Navy seals carried out an operation which killed Al Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden, we have asked what has been the impact of his death on the rest of the world, what significance did it have for groups, hoping to gain as much influence as the one controlled by the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks himself.

His death did deal some blow to the group, but like one of our guests said on the programme back then, that Al Qaeda is more of an ideology, than a group of people who plan attacks.

Here’s where we bring in professor Adegbulu. in this interview, he explains why the us had to kill Ahmed Godane, and what governments around the world can do to sustain victory over terror.
