Lagos Schools resumptionPublic and private primary and secondary schools in Rivers State can now reopen on the 6th of October 2014.

Due to the Ebola outbreak, the Commissioner of Health in the State, Samson Parker, while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt, revealed that schools in Rivers would re-open on October 6.

It could be recalled that the first case of Ebola in Port Harcourt was a doctor, who secretly treated a diplomat (Patrick Sawyer), had contact with the first case of the disease in Nigeria and died of the Ebola Virus.  The  Health Ministry spokesman, Dan Nwomeh, confirmed that the doctor had treated the index, Liberian-American that  brought Ebola to Lagos.

The commissioner was optimistic that the 253 contacts of the Ebola Virus present in the state, would have drastically reduced by next week and without any new case of the disease, the schools will be good to re-open.

He added that the state government through the ministry of education will provide the needed amenities before the new resumption date to address the concerns of the national union of teachers in the state.

Samson Parker also hinted that a suspected case that was in the treatment centre at Emohua in Port Harcourt has come out negative according to the test results.
