A Federal High in Court in Abuja has extended the exparte order banning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from using the November 1 delegate conference for the purpose of conducting governorship primary election in Akwa-Ibom State.
The order will subsist till November 19 when the motion on notice filed by two governorship aspirants under the platform of the PDP, Umanah Okon Umanah and Lady Roberta Nyong will be determined
The plaintiffs sued the party and its National Chairman, Adamu Mu ‘azu, over alleged plans to exclude them from the party’s primary elections in the state.
The trial Judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, extended the order against the PDP at the resumed hearing of the case instituted by the plaintiffs challenging their exclusion from the November 1 ward congress in the state.
At the resumed hearing, counsel to the PDP, Mr Paul Usaro, informed the court that he was only served with a copy of the motion on notice on Wednesday evening and needed time to respond to it, causing Justice Adeniyi to agree with the defendant’s lawyer and subsequently adjourned hearing of the motion on notice to November 19.
The plaintiffs are also seeking an order restraining the party from preventing them from participating in the state’s governorship primary.
