Imo StateThe Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on conducting a free, fair and credible election in the state in forthcoming elections.

The Governor made this statement while receiving the newly deployed INEC Resident Commissioner for Imo State at the Ndubuisi  Kanu Council Chambers in Government House in Owerri the Imo State capital.

Governor Okorocha said that there were rumours making the rounds in the state that the PDP was planning to manipulate the process of the elections with the help of INEC.

He said that the APC and the people of the state would resist any attempt by INEC or PDP to rig elections in the state.

For the newly deployed INEC Resident Commissioner in the state, Dr. Gabriel Ada, the commission was ready to ensure a free and fair election.

He, however, noted that it remained important for political parties in the state to advise their supporters against any form of election violence and thuggery.

He also expressed worries that many voters had refused to collect their PVCs as the statistics of PVC distribution in the state was still less than 50%.

He advised politicians in the state to encourage their supporters to collect their PVCs to enable them vote for the candidates of their choice.

The Imo State Governor also encouraged the citizens of the state to go out and collect their Permanent Voter Cards as this was the only way they would be allowed to perform their civic right.
