courtFew days to the governorship election in Nigeria, an Ogun State High Court, has nullified the nomination of Mr Bolaji Sunmola, as the Labour Party’s candidate.

The court in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, also declared a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Sina Kawonise, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the state.

Mr Sunmola was earlier nominated by the state executive of the Labour Party.

Delivering her judgement in the suit brought against the leadership of the party in the state, the presiding judge, Justice O. Majekodunmi further restrained the Ogun State Executive of the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission from substituting Kawonise’s name with that of Sunmola or any other person as the party’s governorship candidate in the state.

Justice Majekodunmi also ruled that the defendants contravened the party’s constitution, the guidelines for party primaries and the Electoral Act 2010 by substituting Kawonise with Sunmola, who never participated in the December party primaries

Commenting about the development, Mr Kawonise, in an emotion laden voice, described the judgement as victory for the rule of law.
