Seven Feared Killed As Boko Haram Attacks Yobe Mosque

yobeA Torrential rainfall has rendered several people homeless in Jajere and Ngelzarma communities of Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria.

Narrating their ordeals, victims of the flood disaster attributed the flood to poor drainage systems in both communities and called on the government at all levels to come to their immediate rescue.

The two communities according to them, also lack the necessary drainage system that could withstand any heavy downpour.

They said several houses, food stuff, livestock and valuables were destroyed by the flood and cried for assistance from Government and spirited individuals.

The State Deputy Governor, Abubakar Aliyu who visited the communities to commiserate with the victims over the losses, said the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had been directed to take stock of the destruction and urgently recommend palliative for immediate approval and distribution to the victims.

While attributing the cause of the flood to blockage of the waterways, Mr Aliyu revealed that the state Governor had also directed the State’s Ministry of Works to carryout urgent measures that would prevent future occurrence.

The displaced persons are currently taking refuge either with some of their friends or relations whose houses were not affected by the flood and at the primary schools in the communities.

Some of them are victims of the Boko Haram insurgency who had long been subjected to being Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in their fatherland.
