According to the Governor, the initiative would help retain cleanliness and ensure residents imbibed a healthy living lifestyle.
He stressed that a clean environment contributes to the well-being of it citizens and that Akwa Ibom people are known for their exceptional cleanliness.
Governor Emmanuel, however, called on the people to uphold the core values that were inherent in them.
By the reintroduction of the exercise, on every last Saturday of every month, residents would observe the environmental sanitation day and the Governor urged the people to key into the scheme.
He further stated that a perfect waste disposal policy must be implemented in view of the industrialisation drive of his administration and directed the Heath Commissioner, Dr Dorminic Ukpong, to liaise with the relevant ministries and identify appropriate waste disposal points for disposal of human, medical and industrial waste.
The Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr Iniobong Essien, told reporters that the ministry had declared war against dirty environment and called for the protection of the environment for the safety of lives and property.
Dr Essien said the development would justify the status of the state as a model for cleanliness and development.
He commended the Governor’s vision of reintroducing the sanitation exercise and thanked him for participating in its flag off.
