The trial of the former National Security Adviser (NSA) Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) continues on Monday at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The federal government last week filed an amended charge against the former National Security Adviser, after his arraignment on a one-count charge of unlawful possession of firearms without licence.
The prosecution had expanded the charges to include money laundering and also applied to the court for a secret trial Mr Dasuki as well as protection for all its witnesses in the suit.
The charges also include possession of illegal fire arms, retention of $40,000, $20,000 and five million Naira, said to be proceeds of unlawful acts.
He is also accused of being in possession of $150, 000 and over 37 million Naira in his residence in Sokoto.
When the charges were read in court, Mr Dasuki pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution had asked the court not to allow any member of the public to witness the trial, apart from lawyers and accredited journalists, asking that the witnesses be permitted to wear facial masks while giving evidence against the former NSA.
The request by the prosecution was, however, opposed by the defence counsel led by Joseph Daudu who argued that conducting secret trials is counter-productive in a democracy.
He also asked the court to release the travel documents of the accused so that he could travel abroad for medical check-up.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola thereafter fixed today (Monday, November 2) for the continuation of hearing.
