Saraki-Senate PresidentSenate President, Bukola Saraki, has named 65 Senate committees to oversee various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the government.

Senator Saraki also named the Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of these committees.

A total of 41 committees are chaired by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senators, while 24 committees are headed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Senate President had in July, directed each Senator to fill forms indicating their interest in the committees they would belong.

He said: “Senators are advised to fill the forms indicating their interest in belonging to the committees of their choice and it is a maximum of five committees per senator.

“The forms will be distributed by the Clerk. You can also take a look at the form and make your submissions to the leader of the senate,” Saraki added.

The naming of the committees, chairmen came a day after the Senate President filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which on October 30 affirmed the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal to try him on 13 counts of false assets declaration.

Senator Saraki also filed an application for stay of proceedings urging the Supreme Court to halt the proceedings of the Code of conduct Tribunal to try him for the alleged offences pending when his appeal would be determined.

The Senate President raised seven grounds of appeal in his notice of appeal filed on Tuesday and attached to the application for stay of proceedings.
