pensioners-imoThe Imo State Government has commenced the payment of over 30 months pension arrears to pensioners across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

During the disbursement of the cheques to pensioners, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Chinyere Ohandu, said the payment was in line with the promise of the Okorocha-led administration to clear all the backlogs of pension arrears.

She urged all pensioners who have not received their cheques to go to the appropriate offices and do their verification as soon as possible, in order to receive their own cheques.

The government also disclosed that the payment was done per categories.

Pensioners whose monthly pension is 10,000 Naira and below get 100 per cent payment while those whose monthly pension is 10,000 and above get 50,000 Naira.

Some of the beneficiaries who got their cheques commended the state government for fulfilling its promise, saying it will go a long way in alleviating their sufferings.

However, some pensioners, who lamented that their names were omitted from the payment list, appealed to the government to also come to their aid.
