NLC, Strike, fuel price

NLCImo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has expressed disappointment over the attitude of  the national leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

The Governor met with the leadership of the NLC at the Ecco Chambers of the Government House in Owerri, Imo State capital on Friday.

He said that it was obvious that the state chapter of the NLC did not brief their national leaders about the true position of things in the state before compelling them to protest against the state government on Wednesday.

The NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, disclosed that from the reports made available to them, workers in the state were not happy with some plans and decisions of the government, as well as issues bothering on pensions.

While appealing to the Governor to consider the plights of workers in the state and the issues they have raised, Comrade Ayuba noted that workers are partners in progress and development facilitators in every society.

Governor Okorocha reiterated that his administration is friendly to workers and means well for the people of the state. He said that all workers in Imo State have been paid except workers in Ada Palm.

The Governor added that his government had no plan to reduce the salary of workers or retrench workers, but will not condone corruption, laziness or indolence in the state civil service and any one found defaulting would be shown the way out.

Another meeting has been scheduled by the government to find a lasting solution to the issues.

The NLC had on Wednesday staged a protest in Owerri, Imo State capital, against the alleged retrenchment of workers and salary cut by the state government.

The NLC, led by its National President, asked the government to pay the salaries of all parastatals being owed.
