PDP on Rivers ElectionsThe opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is calling on the Presidency to constitute a panel that will probe the violence that trailed rerun elections in the Rivers State, southern Nigeria.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ali-Modu Sheriff, made the request on Tuesday at a press conference in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The PDP Chairman said that the party was dissatisfied with the way security agents conducted themselves during the exercise on Saturday.

The party is also asking the Independent National Electoral Commission to give certificates of return to winners already declared by the electoral body after the parliamentary polls.

In the meantime, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had in a press conference to the review activities of the polls, condemned the conduct of the legislative rerun elections in the oil-rich state.

Demanding for the cancellation of the elections, the Chairman of the party in Rivers State, Mr Davies Ekanya, told reporters that the APC was unhappy with the outcome of the polls.

Violence and other irregularities experienced during the election held on Saturday, March 19, led to the cancelation of the exercise in eight local government areas.
