Rivers electionThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the Senate is asking President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the violence that trailed the national and state assembly election in River State.

At a media briefing, the Senate Minority Leader, who is also the leader of the caucus, Senator Godswill Akpabio, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to release the outstanding results in the Rivers State rerun elections.

Senator Akpabio said that the lawmakers had resolved that INEC should release election results particularly those collated from all polling units and local government areas in their possession.

The senators, while condemning the acts of violence that trailed the election, also said that the panel of inquiry should ensure that those behind the act are brought to justice.

The lawmakers also agreed to send a delegation to commensurate with families of those who lost their lives during the exercise.

The INEC had suspended all action on the Rivers election, saying it would wait until it receives reports from its officials in the field.
