The National Union of Air Transport Employees has revealed plans by foreign airlines operating in the country to lay off about 2,000 Nigerian staff.
In a letter to the Minister of State for Aviation, the Acting General Secretary of the union, Mr Olayinka Abioye, explained that the airlines say this is due to inability to transfer earnings to their respective home countries because of the CBN’s policy on forex and fund transfer.
The air transport union is asking the federal government to grant foreign airlines concession to repatriate their proceeds to their home countries to prevent the huge job loss in the nation’s aviation sector.
