Shiites, Sharia

Police-DSS-Shiite-IMNThe Nigeria Police and DSS have said that the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) wing of the Shiite sect constitute a security threat to the nation.

The agencies were speaking at separate submissions at the on-going public hearing of the Kaduna State Commission of Inquiry into the Shiite/Army clash of December 12, 2015 in Zaria.

They are asking for measures to tackle the group before it causes havoc similar to that of the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

Both agencies said that that Islamic Movement in Nigeria was being funded by local and international organisations, as well as the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The IMN had earlier filed a suit against the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army and the Attorney General of the Federation over the continuous detention of their leader, Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

They also questioned the continuous detention of their leader’s wife, Zeenat and over 200 of their members by the DSS and the Nigerian Police Force.

Describing El-Zakzak and his wife’s detention as ‘an infringement of their fundamental human rights to liberty and association’, they demanded a three billion Naira monetary compensation, as general and aggravated damages for the illegal violation of his fundamental rights.
