13 Soldiers, Police Officer Killed In Boko Haram Ambush

Troops, IDPs, Army, Monguno, BornoTroops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted a suicide bomb attack on some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno State, northeast Nigeria.

A statement by the Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, said the incident occurred at about 6:15am on Monday.

Colonel Usman explained that three female Boko Haram terrorists attempted to attack the IDPs while they were fetching water at a borehole located about three kilometres in the outskirt of Monguno town along Marte Road.

He said that the vigilant troops detected and killed the two terrorists instantly, but the explosive they were strapped with exploded and injured two civilians nearby.

The Army spokesman added that the third suicide bomber, who followed a different route, detonated hers some distance before troops’ deployment situated along the same road at about 7:10 am.

He further stated that the injured civilians have been evacuated and were receiving medical attention at the 8th Task Force Division’s medical facility.

Troops have cordoned off the general area and imposed restriction of movement into Monguno to make the area safe.
