OgahA Civil Society Group under the aegis of Abia Interest Group is calling for the arrest of Dr Uche Ogah over alleged treasonable felony to upturn a democratically elected governor.

The group, led by its Director General, Mr Eze Chikamnayo, said the arrest of Dr Ogah, who is the main challenger in the party primaries which produced the gubernatorial candidate for April 2015 governorship elections in the state, will serve as deterrent to any group or persons who intend to jeopardize the peace of the state.

The groups said there is need to ensure that Abia State does not become another flashpoint in yet another geopolitical zone of the country resulting from unnecessary controversies.

A court in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, had asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cede the Certificate of Return issued to the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, to his opponent.

Giving his ruling, the Judge, Justice Okon Abang, said that Mr Ikpeazu never qualified to run for the party primaries in the People’s Democratic Party as a governorship candidate.

The judge also ordered the Chief Judge of the state to swear in, Uche Ogah, his opponent in the December 2014 governorship election in state as the substantive governor of Abia State.

However, after an appeal by Mr Ikpeazu, the High Court sitting in Osisioma Ngwa Judicial Division gave an order of injunction restraining the electoral umpire, or the Chief Judge of the state or any other judge from swearing-in Samson Ogah as Abia Governor.
