Flood, kwaraTthe Kwara State Government has been engaging in sensitising the communities on the likely effect of not moving out of  flood prone areas in the state.

This is coming after a flood warning given by Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NMA),

The sensitisation program is part of efforts by the government to ensure that some communities prone to flood are not caught unawares.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Services, Manzuma Kawu, said that the government had been making effort to ensure that those prone to flood attacks are evacuated.

The Governor’s aide believed that the constant enlightenment by the government would go a long way in ensuring that the people are saved from the flood.

He further noted that the traditional rulers of the three local governments mostly affected have been co-operating in the program.

Nearly 50 villages could be affected by the flood in Patigi, Moro and Edu Local Governments and Mr Kawu assured that alternatives have been provided by government as temporary abode.

However, some of the communities pleaded for federal government’s intervention, promising to permanently vacate the place if alternative houses are provided.

Obbo road in Ilorin East Local Government and Isale Dumo community are some of the communities being yearly ravaged by flood yearly as most of the houses are built at the river bank.
