Philip Tachin, The Benue state government has promised to boost education in the state by providing a conducive learning environment.

Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Mr Philip Tachin, said this as he inspected the 7.6 Billion Naira State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), model schools in Guma and other parts of the state.

He also deplored the fact that some students currently take classes under trees and he maintained that the new structures would enhance the educational system of the state.

“Our intention is to see that all the structures stand in very high quality,” he said.

The plight of the schools was said to be as a result of a past crisis between the Fulani and Tiv tribes, in which some schools were burnt down.

Also, there were issues of contractors being accused of fraud.

However, speaking to Channels Television, one of the representatives said “it is not true, the insinuation that 70% was given out and 30% was kept as kickbacks.

“Except of course if those alleging can come forward with proof.

“We want a quality job done so that children would have no cause to regret being from the state,” he added.

The government however has acknowledged the current level of progress and there are hopes that with the new facilities being put in place, the educational system is expected to take a new turn as soon as possible.
