Governor Ahmed made the submission at a meeting held at the Government House in Ilorin, with officials of the National Examination Council (NECO) officials led by the Registrar, Professor Charles Nwaikwe.
He pointed out that the council’s roles were critical to human capital development of youths.
While lamenting the high rate of youth unemployment in Nigeria, Governor Ahmed suggested that the youths should be trained so as to bridge the gap and ensure that people that are trained are employable.
“We will also exploit other ways by which we can improve on our support for NECO and other agencies that are development partners in our human capital development because, be that as it may, we know that education system in Nigeria has gone through a lot of metamorphosis and we have not been able to, as a country, articulate our human capital needs and human capital training programmes.
“That is why you see a lot of unemployed youths, unfortunately lots of them are unemployable because there is a huge gap between the training and the needs,” he pointed out.
The governor, however, stressed that there was the need to bridge the gap and ensure that those trained were employable.
