Governor Ganduje, who was addressing civil servants on Monday, said he had already approved the training and promotion of over 1,000 workers across the state.
He was speaking at the Sani Abacha Outdoor Stadium where hundreds of workers, labour leaders and top government officials gathered to celebrate the 2017 Workers’ Day, the first of its kind since the Boko Haram attacks.
The governor told the civil servants that his government, being one of the few states that maintain timely payment of workers’ salaries, has made a sustainable plan to include members of the state civil service in his development agenda.
He appealed to the union leaders to continue to support and cooperate with government in achieving a transformed Kano State Civil Service.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Kabiru Gwarzo, urged Governor Ganduje to intensify efforts towards improving the welfare of workers in the state.
He also asked him to address the issues of non-payment of pension to retirees, promotion of workers still in service, as well as training and retraining of civil servants across the state.
