The Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki has appealed to leaders of communities in the state to work together towards maintaining government assets in their communities.

The governor who gave the charge while inspecting a gully erosion site at Ihievbe which has eaten up part of the Sabongida Ora-Auchi Road In Owan East Local Government Area of the state, observed the gully started due to neglect in cleaning blocked drains.

He blamed the local government for neglecting their responsibility and said he will fix the road while the local government will bear the cost.

“Your failure to just clean up  the drains is costing us, and I am going to make sure that from your funds we repair that problem. What are you supposed to do as a local government.

“We need to put pressure on our communities, we need to insist that our communities maintain government assets that have been provided for them because if they don’t, they are the ones that are going to lose.

“A simple community organising themselves to clean up their drainage would have prevented this sort of unfortunate situation.”
