The incident happened early on Friday morning when the policemen engaged the bandits, who have been terrorising communities in the region, in a gun battle.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abeh, who confirmed the incident to Channels Television said the policemen were on a routine patrol in the area when they were ambushed by the gunmen who opened fire on them.
He explained that the two policemen where shot during the gun battle and died before they could be rushed to a nearby hospital.
He added that some of the gunmen escaped with bullet wounds into the bush.
The police boss insisted that no amount of attacks against his men would deter the command from dislodging the criminals from their hideouts, and vowed to bring the gunmen behind Friday’s attack to book no matter how long it takes.
Mr Abeh said relative peace has been restored to Southern Kaduna due to the fact that his men have been stationed in all the troubled communities to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
