The South East governors are expected to hold an emergency meeting today to address all issues of security in the zone.

The meeting has become necessary following the recent IPOB and military clash in Abia state.

The governors had in their last meeting with the IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, appealed to the Federal Government to allow it resolve all IPOB related issues.

The Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai is also expected to join today’s meeting.

South-East governors had on August 30, 2017, met with Nnamdi Kanu and other leaders of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

Chairman of the forum, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, told reporters that the closed-door meeting, which held at the Government House in Enugu, was strictly a peace talk.

According to him, the governors have appealed to the leadership of IPOB and other concern citizens to allow them the opportunity to address the issues they have raised.

Governor Umahi said the forum would engage the IPOB leadership in its subsequent meetings to ensure all issues were amicably resolved.

The governors are in another closed-door meeting to discuss issues of common interest in the region.
