The Police in Rivers State has confirmed the attack on Ogba, Egbema, Ndoni Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of New Year’s day.

The gunmen reportedly raided the community when residents were returning from a mid-night service and they opened fire on the unsuspecting victims.

The Police Public relations officer of the command, Nnamdi Omoni told Channels Television on January 1, 2018 that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in the state has led a team of officers to the scene.

Although eyewitnesses say the death toll could be 16, Omoni said that calm has been returned to the area.

The Police has since ordered a full scale investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has condemned the attack with a promise to assist the police to unravel those behind the heinous crime.
