A student of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, Adamawa state, has been reported killed while several others were injured following a clash amongst the students on Sunday night.

Eyewitnesses say the crisis started after the result of the students’ union government election favoured a particular group.

The Christian students were said to have clinched almost all the positions at the elections – a development that angered their Muslim counterparts who later on launched an attack on them while they were having a fellowship.

While the students ought to have commenced their exams today (Monday), the University authorities after an emergency meeting, ordered that the school be closed and that all students vacate the premises.

The Dean of Studies, Lawan Haruna, who announced the closure, told Journalists that about four lecture theatres and some equipment were destroyed by the rampaging students.

Meanwhile, the Adamawa state Commissioner of Police CP Abdullahi Yerima, described the incident as unfortunate. He, however, said calm has been restored to the university.
