A former Governorship aspirant in Cross River and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Joe Odey Agi has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the forthcoming Senate by-election in the state, according to the Chairman of the primary election committee, Alhaji Suleiman Nakowa.

The election was held on Thursday.

Briefing journalists on Friday at the APC national secretariat, Nakowa said Agi scored a sweeping 113,229 votes of the 132,554 valid votes cast to emerge the winner.

Others who lost to Agi include Harry Godwin Ode, Ochicha Ode and Fidelis Ebi Egoro.

Agi is an Abuja based lawyer and was involved in the 2015 governorship contest in his Cross River home state on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as an aspirant, where he lost to the incumbent Governor Ben Ayade.

The committee chairman said the election, which was conducted through a direct primary mode, was peaceful.

The by-election is being conducted following the death of the former Senator, Rose Oko.
