Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Gambari meets with some governors and members of the National Food Security Council

The National Food Security on Tuesday held a meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Ibrahim Gambari.

The meeting had in attendance six governors drawn from the six geopolitical zones.

During the last meeting which was held on September 10, 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ensure it doesn’t issue a kobo of the country’s reserves for the importation of food items and fertilizer.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Kebbi State Governor Mr Atiku Bagudu said the meeting was to ensure better synergy among all agencies concerned to ensure the country maintains its food security status.

He lamented the flooding that has affected his state adversely but is optimistic the better synergy of all concerned agencies will help remedy the situation.

While the Jigawa State Governor, Mohammed Badaru explained that the price of food is going down but it will take sometime for the impact to be felt.

He also explained that the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative is still on course causing a massive reduction in the price of fertiliser in the country hence the directive of President Buhari ordering the CBN not to release a kobo for importation of food and fertiliser still stands.
