The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has received the first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Government House clinic in Jos, the state capital.
Governor Lalong was accompanied by his wife Regina and his Deputy Governor, Professor Sonni Tyoden alongside other government functionaries.
The governor warned that taking the vaccine should not be a licence to abandoning the pharmaceutical protocols such as wearing facemasks, observing social distancing, and keeping to hygiene practices.

The governor also emphasised that the vaccines are free and no one should be charged for receiving the doses.
The governor received his first jab administered by his personal physician, Doctor Benjamin Dashat followed by the wife of the governor as well as the deputy governor.
Other recipients at the flag off include the Chief Judge of the state, security chiefs, legislatures as well as traditional and religious leaders.
After receiving his vaccination, the governor appealed to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) and control to consider the COVID-19 medical research team submission which will add value to the homegrown efforts in finding lasting solution to the pandemic.
