NDLEA Warns Sokoto Youths Against Abuse Of Drugs

Within the last one year, over two hundred and seventy arrests persons have been arrested in connection with drug related offences.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Sokoto State Command has warned youths in the state to desist from abusing illicit, harmful and dangerous drugs capable of destroying their lives.

The call was made by the commandant of the state command, Iro Muhammed at a press conference in commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Sokoto.

Mr Muhammed stated that in the last one year the command has made over two hundred and seventy arrests (270) and secured over fifty (50) convictions.

He further disclosed that the command seized close to two million kilograms of various illicit drugs within the period under review, while thirty-five drug users have been made to undergo counseling and rehabilitation.

The commander noted that the command is aware of the nature of the security challenges posed by bandits and terrorists within the state, adding that the government must not tire in its efforts to tackle drug peddling within Sokoto as it plays a huge role in the operations of criminals within the state.
