A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Adetokunbo Pearse has expressed disappointment about President Bola Tinubu’s government’s management of the economy.

“I frankly, I’m very disappointed at Tinubu, very disappointed. I thought he understood economics. Now, I realize he’s just a bookkeeper,’’ he said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday.

Explaining further, he described a bookkeeper as one who “accounts for money but to develop a business or an economy takes a business mind because whatever is going on now in the [country] is a disaster”.

His comment comes on the backdrop of the hike in the pump price of petroleum in the country owing to the removal of subsidy on fuel.

The former PDP Lagos chairmanship candidate lamented the development, claiming that since Nigeria is an oil-producing country, the price of the commodity should be affordable.

“Unless the President goes there [NNPCL] to observe, we might not really get the importance or benefits of the oil that is produced in this country,” Pearse added.

He equally claimed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is corrupt, saying the organisation needs to be probed.

‘’We can’t be going back and forth. We need to solve this problem. The cost of oil is too expensive and we need to make it to be affordable,” the PDP chieftain noted. “The solution to this issue is to go to NNPCL and find out the wastage, inefficiency, and corruption which need to be curbed for this issue to reduce’’.
