Minister Commissions Projects In Niger, Connects Community To National Grid

The project, the first of its kind in Malagi, is expected to provide electricity to all households and boost economic activities in the area.


 

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has successfully connected the Malagi community in Gbako Local Government Area of Niger State to the national electricity grid.

The minister, during the commissioning ceremony on Friday, also unveiled several community development projects, including a mosque, an Islamiyya school, a water project, and a renovated primary school.

Speaking at the event, Idris described the initiatives as his contribution to the growth and progress of his ancestral home.

“This is my way of giving back to the community that shaped my roots. My father was born here, and I am committed to creating opportunities through education and infrastructure so others can benefit and thrive,” he said.

The electrification project, the first of its kind in Malagi, is expected to provide electricity to all households and boost economic activities in the area.

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State, who attended the event, lauded the minister’s efforts in improving the lives of the people. He announced a donation of over N12 million to support various community groups, including women, youths, vigilantes, and traditional leaders.

The governor also pledged to upgrade the renovated primary school into a model junior secondary school and promised the construction of a modern market to enhance local commerce.

“Our government is dedicated to improving the living standards of our people through meaningful interventions like these,” he added.

The event marked a significant step towards transforming Malagi into a more developed and vibrant community.
