Court Sentences ‘Akwa Okuku’ To Cumulative 24 Months’ Jail

He was arrested over alleged shady fetish activities linked to dangerous charms prepared for youths for financial boom, among other charges. 


 

A self-acclaimed native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as “Akwa Okuku Tiwara Aki n’Oba,” has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment following his arrest by the Anambra State Government last year.

The High Court sitting in Awka, however, ruled that part of the sentence will run concurrently with the period already spent in custody, effectively leaving him with eleven months to complete his jail term.

According to the ruling, after serving the prison term, “He will become an ambassador for youth reorientation. His oba shrine is to be destroyed. He will no longer practise Oke-ite and will not administer such charms.

“Upon completion of his imprisonment, he will make public statements denouncing Oke-ite and such charm practices.

“He will serve his imprisonment at the Awka Correctional Centre.

The arrest forms part of the state’s crackdown on criminal elements and fraudulent practices impacting the people of Anambra State negatively.
