Former Presidential Media Aide, Laolu Akande, has hinted that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will step down for the newly appointed Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele.
“I think ultimately Edun is going to step down,” he said during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday.
His comment follows the Senate’s confirmation of the appointment of Oyedele as a minister-designate under the administration of President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.
According to the former presidential aide, the former head of the presidential committee on tax reform had been one of President Bola Tinubu’s choices as a minister.
“As a matter of fact, the President had already penciled his name before the decision was taken to bring Doris to that position, and then Taiwo was asked to hold on for a while.
“The more important thing about Oyedele’s appointment is a flicker of hope that the President is still concerned about governance because Taiwo Oyedele is one of the best demonstrations of technocratic expertise,” Akande said on the show.

“Edun doesn’t want to go and the President needed an effective person in that place, that’s why they brought Taiwo.
“Don’t forget he has always wanted Taiwo in that place, so I expect that Taiwo is going to be driving more of what’s going to be happening in finance going forward” he added.
Oyedele’s Appointment
On Wednesday, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Oyedele as a minister-designate under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, announced the confirmation after lawmakers cleared the nominee through a voice vote at the Committee of the Whole.
The upper chamber spent over two hours grilling the nominee before eventually confirming him as a minister-designate.
