The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has called on residents of Onitsha to take personal responsibility for safety on the highways.
This appeal was made during a church outreach held across several denominations in the commercial city, including Life of Faith Gospel Assembly, where the Sector Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, addressed congregants on the theme, “Getting to Your Destination Safely is in Your Hands.”
In her address, Asekhauno stressed that most road crashes are caused by human actions rather than supernatural forces. She warned motorists against dangerous practices such as using mobile phones while driving and overloading vehicles.
The Sector Commander also advised parents to ensure that infants are properly secured in the back seat while travelling, particularly on highways, to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

She further urged road users to comply strictly with traffic laws and regulations, and encouraged residents to extend road safety awareness to grassroots communities that may lack access to conventional media platforms.
Highlighting the importance of road infrastructure, Asekhauno noted that traffic signs and road markings are designed to guide and warn motorists, thereby preventing accidents, and should always be obeyed.
She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to promoting road safety across the state and called on all road users to make safety a top priority.
The outreach featured the distribution of safety flyers and interactive sessions with worshippers aimed at reinforcing key road safety messages.
