Cleric Advises Akeredolu To Run Government Like Awolowo, Ajasin

Ondo, Rotimi Akeredolu, Sam Olu-Alo, Obafemi Awolowo, Adekunle AjasinThe Ondo State Governor-elect, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has been advised to follow the steps of some past leaders in ensuring good governance.

The Coordinator of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Erio, Ekiti State and founder of CAC Grace of Mercy Prayer Mountain (GMPM), Prophet Sam Olu-Alo, asked Mr Rotimi to take a cue from the late Premier of Western Region, Obafemi Awolowo, and late former Governor of Ondo State, Adekunle Ajasin.

Prophet Olu-Alo, who said the two late elder statesmen executed life-transforming projects, programmes and policies that people still benefit from, tasked the awaiting governor not to fall short of such when he assumes office in February.

The cleric made the call during the three-year anniversary thanksgiving of CAC GMPM (Adamimogo Outreach) in Akure, the Ondo State capital which climaxed its nine-day ‘open air crusade’ at the GMPM grounds.

He urged Nigerians irrespective of class and status to embrace God with a view to getting Nigeria out of its present condition.

The clergyman also tasked President Muhammadu Buhari and the 36 state governors to execute people-oriented projects that would outlive them.

Put God First

“They should implement projects and policies that (would have) positive impact on the land and people which will speak for them long after they might have left office or even dead.

“That is how they can always be remembered and fulfil the purpose (for which) God put them in office.

“The Governor-elect of Ondo State should come to office with that mind and work for the good of the people.

“He should put God first and do the will of God who made his electoral victory possible. He should embrace all without discrimination,” Prophet Olu-Alo said.

Nigeria Needs Prayers

The cleric said CAC GMPM Adamimogo Outreach came into being to ensure restoration of the souls that had wandered away from God, to deliver the oppressed, to reveal God’s mind to human beings and let them know that God still answers prayers.

He urged Nigerians of all classes and status to be determined to return to God.

“For instance, when you look at America; it is not as if the people don’t (commit) sin but they fear God. They value human lives.

But here (in Nigeria), there is no value for human lives; even murderers are being celebrated.

“There is no fear of God; there is need for repentance, then prayers and love. Nigeria needs prayers.

“This is why I still reiterated the need for a day to be set aside for men of God across different denominations to gather to pray for the country”.

2016 In Retrospect: APC Will Come Out Stronger – AdesinaPresidential spokesperson, Mr Femi Adesina, believes that between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), there is a fundamental difference of one being ‘progressive’ while the other is ‘conservative’.

He was responding to criticisms of the government and the ruling party on Saturday, December 31 during Channels Television’s special year-end programme, ‘2016 In Retrospect’, where panelists questioned what they described as lack of ideology.

A former Lagos governorship aspirant, Sinatu Ojikutu described the Buhari administration as one with good intentions but without a proper idea of how to do it.

She agreed with another guest on the show, who said that the lack of a party ideology has made governance difficult for the APC.

She went on to say: “These two parties; PDP, APC, I don’t see that much difference between the two of them in terms of what they want to do for Nigeria”

A Communication expert, Dr. Nick Idoko, however put a different perspective to the issue.

“As a nation, we have a crisis of philosophy. We don’t have a philosophy, so you can’t build parties based on philosophies or ideologies. That is why they are bankrupt,” he said.

But Mr Adesina insisted that in spite of both parties being made up of persons who had decamped at different times, “the ideologies are clear”.

“APC stands on the side of the people, PDP we can say is a little bit on the capitalist side” he added, but the guest unanimously disagreed with his submission.

Political analyst, Deola Soetan, argued that Mr Adesina had not made any correct statement as regards his description of socialism.

He maintained that being “on the side of the people” would demand modesty from politicians as displayed by the likes of Adekunle Ajasin in the past.

Commercializing social services, according to him is capitalism, “That is why during Fashola’s time you had university students paying over 300,000 naira against the philosophy of LASU (Lagos State University) when Jakande created it for poor people to come and become graduates.

“That was why you had tolls everywhere on the road. That was why you had farmers being expelled even from their lands, converting it to housing estates by land speculators.

“So I think Mr Adesina should consult books,” he said.

The panelists had also earlier described the internal crisis experienced by the APC in 2016 as a major distraction for the government.

In his comment, the President’s aide argued that a political party can have upheavals but what it does with it is what matters as such can either destroy the party or make it stronger.

However, with the series of meeting among the stakeholders in the party, there have been genuine efforts to ensure that the party sorts out its challenges.

He went on to say that the APC “will not be destroyed, rather it will come out stronger from what has happened to it”.

Ondo Election: AD Candidate, Olusola Oke Starts Campaign in Akure

Ondo Election: AD Candidate, Olusola Oke Starts Campaign in AkureAlliance for Democracy (AD) Candidate in the Ondo State governorship election, Olusola Oke and his deputy, Ganny Dauda, have been presented the flag of the party.

‎The event held at the Democracy Park in Akure, the state capital and was witnessed by leaders of the AD, including its National Leader, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, the National Chairman, Joseph Avazi and other top officials of the party.

The National Legal Adviser of the party, Kehinde Aworele, who had been in court to challenge the emergence of Oke and his deputy was also present to tell supporters that there was no more crisis in AD.

“There was a court action based on the misunderstanding on the appropriateness of Chief Olusola Oke’s emergence and because his victory is sure we don’t want some people to go to court after his victory to challenge him.

“The fact that I am here addressing this mammoth crowd today shows that there is no more crisis in the party, no cracks within the party, we are one indivisible party.

“There are several means of getting a case out of court; by abandonment, by withdrawal and by discontinuance. There is no more case in court as we have resolved the issues,” he said.

In his address, the National Leader of AD, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa described Olusola Oke as the inheritor of the Awolowo mores.

He gave the assurance that when Oke is elected and forms his government, Ondo would have set itself on a path to rise again.

“For 13 years, we have been in the wilderness, now it has pleased God to give us a leader that is capable of putting Ondo back on tracks.

“If you look at the PDP, it is full of crises, people deceive people, they are at each other’s throats. The APC too is not faring better, they are an amalgam of strange bed fellows who cannot deliver on their promises.

“But we are happy today that the party of Papa Obafemi Awolowo, that of Papa Adekunle Ajasin and Papa Adebayo Adefarati is here and I want you all to vote for the AD.

“If you vote for Olusola Oke, he will replicate all those good programmes of old, he will revamp our education, bring back the revival of our agricultural sector, education shall also be brought back to reckoning,” the AD leader assured.

Earlier in his short remarks, the AD National Chairman, Joseph Avazi said that the AD was poised to form the next government given the spontaneous show of love for a party that merely came into reckoning in barely two months.

According to him, a new dawn is now breaking in Ondo State and AD is set to bring back the lost glory of the Sunshine State. We have ruled this state before, this is our second coming and we shall not disappoint you.

In his acceptance speech, Olusola Oke promised that under his watch, Ondo State would be better and the people would thrive under his administration.

“Some people have been out on campaigns of calumny against me that I will abandon most of the projects I will meet on ground. I want to assure you all that we are not out to destroy whatever we meet but to build on whatever we meet on ground.”‎

“The priority of my government shall be the good of the people of Ondo State. I greet our mothers, we shall ensure we give you life abundance, we shall give you money to trade. Our workers shall receive their salaries and other entitlements as and when due.

“Our youths shall be gainfully employed as we shall wake up all our dead industries and make them functional again.

“I will be in a hurry to deliver good governance, all our dead industries will be completed in a hurry. We shall all laugh and be glad that we voted the best party, the Alliance for Democracy, into power on November 26, 2016, “Olusola Oke assured the cheering crowd.

While further affirming that he would be dedicated to the people’s  welfare, be accountable to them at all times, he pleaded with the people to ensure that they all come out on November 26, 2016 to vote for the Alliance for Democracy.
